Dr. Mai grew up in San Leandro and attended UC Berkeley for her undergraduate studies. She double majored in Molecular Cell Biology and Geophysics. She had always known she wanted to go into the health field, but it was not until her last year in college that she developed an interest in optometry. She wanted to stay at Cal, so she obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree with UC Berkeley School of Optometry. During her training, she interned at the Omni Eye Services in New Jersey where she observed various ocular diseases with a retina specialist, and also at the Livermore VA, where she got to work with veterans and addressing their needs. She has also worked at community clinics such as Castle Eye Center in Atwater and Alameda County Medical Center. Dr. Mai is certified to practice the full scope of optometry, which includes diagnosis and management of eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and more.

Dr. Mai believes in taking the time to listen and addressing each patient’s visual needs in order to provide the best care. She also believes in patient education and fully informing each patient of their ocular health. She is looking forward to meeting patients in the community and providing them with the best options that fit each person’s unique lifestyle needs.
